Villanueva de la Jara is a municipality in the province of Cuenca, in the autonomous region of Castile-La Mancha. According to the 2020 population census, it has a population of around 2,900 inhabitants.
In terms of gastronomy, some of the typical dishes of the area include ajoarriero, a cod, potato and garlic stew, and gachas, a flour and oil-based dish that is usually accompanied by other ingredients such as chorizo or torreznos (bacon). Also famous is morteruelo, a pâté made with game meat, bread, garlic and spices.
As for nature, there are several hiking routes in the area, such as the Ruta de los Molinos, which runs through several windmills in the area around the village. Furthermore, near Villanueva de la Jara is the Sierra de Alcaraz, a protected natural area that offers numerous options for enjoying nature and outdoor activities.
